Every year, I’m fascinated by the pictures, videos, and stories that pop up on my social media timeline when Burning Man is in full swing. For those not in the know, Burning Man is a week-long large-scale desert event focused on “community, art, self-expression, and self-reliance” held annually in the Western United States – most frequently Nevada.
Burning Man usually designates a theme for all activities to center around, similar to the costumes celebrities wear during the annual Met Gala. The event features no headliners or scheduled performers; participants create all the art, activities, and events. This allows folks like you and me to make just as significant contributions as famous influencers, companies, and artists.
Besides being one of the world’s most famous events, Burning Man is also a community based on numerous main principles, four of which are critical to the underlying success of our powerful professional ally network:
- Radical Inclusion – anyone can become a part of our network of allies if willing to abide by our edict to “be willing to share your own expertise and provide knowledge to help make others great.” At CONFERRR, not only will you be the benefactor of crowdsourced expert knowledge, but we also provide easy mechanisms that will allow you to give back by empowering others.
- Leaving No Trace – the community of Burning Man respects the environment, leaving it in a better state than when they found it. At CONFERRR, we strive to leave each other in a better state than when we found them, by addressing their expressed needs for help.
- Immediacy – everyone in the BM community is devoted to having an immediate experience. Similarly, at CONFERRR, we are committed to ensuring that everyone has an immediate and positive experience.
- Radical Self-reliance – everyone in the BM community relies on their inner resources; at CONFERRR, after advice from our HR Consiglieres and/or members from the Ally Network, every member is responsible for the decisions and actions they ultimately end up making.
As you know, there are few professional networks that offer these powerful underlying principles of reciprocal mentorship, and we hope you are enjoying and taking advantage of this rare professional opportunity.
